{"id":149236,"date":"2015-08-18T10:33:33","date_gmt":"2015-08-18T05:03:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?p=149236"},"modified":"2015-08-18T12:42:11","modified_gmt":"2015-08-18T07:12:11","slug":"rajapaksa-concedes-defeat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/rajapaksa-concedes-defeat\/","title":{"rendered":"Rajapaksa Concedes Defeat"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Former president <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Mahinda+Rajapaksa&amp;x=14&amp;y=2\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Mahinda Rajapaksa<\/span><\/a> who led the United People\u2019s Freedom Alliance campaign\u00a0has conceded\u00a0defeat\u00a0although the final results of the parliamentary polls are yet to be announced.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Mahinda-.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-147925\" src=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Mahinda-.jpg\" alt=\"Mahinda\" width=\"146\" height=\"155\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Mahinda-.jpg 639w, https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Mahinda--283x300.jpg 283w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 146px) 100vw, 146px\" \/><\/a>According to unconfirmed reports the United National Party (UNP) is set to obtain 108 \u2013 110 seats and the UPFA 90 \u2013 93 seats in the 225 member legislature.<\/p>\n<p>Rajapaksa had told foreign media that his party has lost in the parliamentary elections. However Rajapaksa had said that he would work as an opposition member of parliament.<\/p>\n<p>Although the final result is yet to come according to election secretariat sources the UPFA has won eight districts out of the 22 and the UNP has won 11 districts.
