{"id":149726,"date":"2015-08-27T08:23:44","date_gmt":"2015-08-27T02:53:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?p=149726"},"modified":"2015-09-04T23:47:37","modified_gmt":"2015-09-04T18:17:37","slug":"prageeths-matale-mistress-and-douglas-devanandas-secretary-to-be-questioned-first-abduction-was-exactly-six-years-ago-today","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/prageeths-matale-mistress-and-douglas-devanandas-secretary-to-be-questioned-first-abduction-was-exactly-six-years-ago-today\/","title":{"rendered":"Prageeth&#8217;s Matale Mistress And Douglas Devananda&#8217;s Secretary To Be Questioned; First Abduction Was Exactly Six Years Ago Today"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The reason for suppressing details regarding the disappearance of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Prageeth+Ekneligoda+&amp;x=10&amp;y=3\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Prageeth Ekneligoda<\/span><\/a> prior to the August 2015 Parliamentary elections is that the Criminal Investigation Department had already questioned Ekneligoda&#8217;s mistress and the Maithripala Sirisena &#8211; Ranil Wickremesinghe led government felt that it may have been counter productive to their election drive, an officer investigating the disappearance of Ekneligoda told Colombo Telegraph.<\/p>\n<p>Also during that period prior to the elections Ekneligoda&#8217;s wife <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Sandya+Ekneligoda&amp;x=9&amp;y=6\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Sandya Ekneligoda<\/span><\/a> held a press conference and claimed that information pertaining to the disappearance of her husband had not been released to the public.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Prageeth-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-149727\" src=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Prageeth-2.jpg\" alt=\"Prageeth\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Prageeth-2.jpg 1017w, https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Prageeth-2-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Prageeth-2-800x600.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">*Photo c<\/span>ourtesy\u00a0Lionel Bopage\u00a0<span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">&#8211; Prageeth (sitting at the centre) at a discussion before the day he was made to disappear<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">In response to Sandya&#8217;s claims <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a style=\"line-height: 1.5;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.dailymirror.lk\/83633\/prageeth-probe-police-under-no-pressure-to-conceal-infor\">the police spokesman making a counter statement said<\/a><\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\"> that the CID cannot reveal all the information in their possession as the investigation was still in progress.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In the run up to the August general elections the anti-Rajapaksa camp used Sandya Ekneligoda the wife of Prageeth as an icon in their campaign of disappeared persons.<\/p>\n<p>However in a dramatic change in the CID&#8217;s investigation into the disappearance of Prageeth Ekenligoda, it is reported that Ekneligoda&#8217;s mistress and the former Minister <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Douglas+Devananda&amp;x=8&amp;y=6\">Douglas Devananda<\/a><\/span>&#8216;s media secretary <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Nelson+Edirisinghe&amp;x=17&amp;y=5\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Nelson Edirisinghe<\/span><\/a> are to be brought in soon to be questioned formally. Previously the duo had been questioned by the CID and information was gathered in informally.<\/p>\n<p>The CID has found evidence that Ekneligoda had not lived with his wife but with another woman in Matale.<\/p>\n<p>Whenever Ekneligoda was in Colombo he had lived at the residence of Edirisinghe and not with his wife Sandya.<\/p>\n<p>The CID has also established facts that whenever Ekneligoda was out of Colombo he frequently made his first call to Edirisinghe and on several occasions his second call was made thereafter to Douglas Devananda.<\/p>\n<p>Prageeth Ekenligoda <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/was-prageeth-abducted-for-his-journalism-or-for-mailing-human-ash\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">was first abducted exactly 6 years ago today<\/span><\/a>, the 27th August 2009 and was released following morning.<\/p>\n<p>He was abducted a second time the day prior to the 2010 January Presidential elections and has been missing since.<\/p>\n<p>The CID is trying to establish the facts pertaining to both his first and second abductions that has now led to his permanent disappearance. It was wildly known that on or about the time of his second abduction he is alleged to have penned a jungle paper to support General <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Sarath+Fonseka&amp;x=5&amp;y=5\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Sarath Fonseka<\/span><\/a> in his 2010 Presidential election campaign.\u00a0The document was type set and Prageeth checked the proofs as well. Moreover his handwriting was also visible in some sections of the document. But this still did not explain why Prageeth was abducted the first time, then there was no such document and the Fonseka election campaign had yet to kick off. Moreover the Presidential election itself was yet to be announced.<\/p>\n<p>Four army personnel were arrested by the CID three days ago in connection with the disappearance of Eknaligoda, Police said two lieutenant colonels, a staff sergeant and a corporal were among the arrested.<\/p>\n<p>The CID also found that couple of days after Prageeth&#8217;s final disappearance, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=kelly+Senanayake&amp;x=8&amp;y=7\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Kelly Senanayake<\/span><\/a> and Ekneligoda&#8217;s wife Sandya had on suspicion visited Prageth&#8217;s Matale Mistress&#8217; house suspecting that he was hiding there.
