President Maithripala Sirisena\u2019s son Daham Sirisena<\/span><\/a> has yesterday (today in New York time) participated in the youth-led high level event at the UN\u00a0Headquarters. The event focused on the Role of Youth in the Implementation and Monitoring of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).<\/p>\n

According to Sirisen’s Facebook; Young people, high-level member state representatives and civil society organisations, along with the President of the General Assembly and UN entities joined forces in New York to recognize the role youth have played in shaping the 2030 agenda for sustainable development and launch a call to action on youth leadership and participation in the implementation of the SDGs. The event aimed at sending out a clear and strong message about the importance of including the views of young people and their crucial role in the implementation and accountability for the SDGs at global and national levels.<\/p>\n

The event was hosted by the Permanent Missions of Denmark, Rwanda, and Sri Lanka; the Government of the United Kingdom, the Office of the UN Secretary-General\u2019s Envoy on Youth, the United Nations Development Programme and Restless Development.<\/p>\n

Daham Sirisena has no official status whatsoever in the Sri Lankan delegation a foreign ministry spokesperson told Colombo Telegraph<\/em>.<\/p>\n
