{"id":152513,"date":"2015-10-21T19:38:08","date_gmt":"2015-10-21T14:08:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?p=152513"},"modified":"2015-11-07T15:18:27","modified_gmt":"2015-11-07T09:48:27","slug":"tamils-abducted-in-colombo-ended-up-at-trinco-navy-camp-cid-tells-courts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/tamils-abducted-in-colombo-ended-up-at-trinco-navy-camp-cid-tells-courts\/","title":{"rendered":"Tamils Abducted In Colombo Ended Up At Trinco Navy Camp: CID Tells Courts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The CID told courts today that 11 persons, mainly Tamil youth abducted by unidentified groups in Colombo and suburbs in 2008 &#8211; 2009, had been detained at the Trincomalee Navy camp.<\/p>\n<p>A lawyer appearing for the family members of some of the missing persons told courts that they were yet to know the fate of their loved ones and as a result the family members were suffering from severe trauma.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Navy-Commander-Wasantha-Karannagoda-.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-152514\" src=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Navy-Commander-Wasantha-Karannagoda-.jpg\" alt=\"Navy Commander Wasantha Karannagoda\" width=\"450\" height=\"293\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Navy-Commander-Wasantha-Karannagoda-.jpg 450w, https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Navy-Commander-Wasantha-Karannagoda--300x195.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/a>The Magistrate taking into considerations the submissions by the lawyer ordered the police to speed up the investigations and bring it to a closure as soon as possible.<\/p>\n<p>The CID in response said their detectives were conducting further investigations to arrest those responsible.<\/p>\n<p>In this case, the CID has named navy lieutenant commander Sampath Munasinghe, the personal bodyguard of the former Navy commander retired Admiral <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Wasantha+Karannagoda&amp;x=5&amp;y=9\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Wasantha Karannagoda<\/span><\/a> as the main suspect.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile according to the Police, the preliminary inquiries into the abductions have revealed that Lieutenant Commander Sampath Munasinghe, who was a bodyguard of the former Navy Commander, was connected to the 11 abductions in Colombo during that time period.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier CID informed courts that a group accompanied by Munasinghe abducted five youths in Dehiwela area in 2009. They have also demanded a ransom of Rs. 10 million from the relatives of the abducted youths.<\/p>\n<p>The police have found the National Identity Cards of four missing youth and passports from Munasinghe&#8217;s room. The CID told that the men had been detained at underground cells at the Colombo and Trincomalee Navy camps.<\/p>\n<p>The CID earlier had told the court that the former commander (Retd.) Admiral Karannagoda was aware of the abductions.
