The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna today said that it will bring a no-confidence motion against Law and Order Minister Tilak Marapana<\/span><\/a> in Parliament over the Avant Garde<\/span><\/a> issue.<\/p>\n

The JVP called on both President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to expel Marapana before such a happening.<\/p>\n

The JVP also urged the government to probe Justice Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe and Home Affairs Minister Vajira Abeywardena\u2019s links with the controversial Avant Garde Company.<\/p>\n

JVP Parliamentarian Bimal Ratnayake told media that Abeywardene had taken the Avant Garde Chairman to see President Sirisena on Januaray 10, soon after his election to the high office.<\/p>\n

He urged Sirisena to reveal what conspired during the meeting with Abeywardene and the Avant Garde boss.<\/p>\n

Ratnayake said that Abeywardena had very close links with Avant Garde. He pointed out that after former Additional Secretary to the Defence Ministry Damayanthi Jayaratne was removed from the post over allegations of misusing her powers to help Avant Garde, Abeywardena had taken steps to appoint her as an Additional Secretary at his Ministry.<\/p>\n

He said both Wijeyadsa\u2019s and Abeywardena\u2019s links to the company should be investigated forthwith.<\/p>\n

Ratnayake said if Marapana is not removed the JVP will vote against the Law and Order Ministry budget when the debate and vote on the 2016 budget takes place.<\/p>\n

The JVP also urged the Prime Minister to reveal his stance over the issue.<\/p>\n

Ratnayake recalled that the Prime Minister himself had on several instances noted that there were serious issues related to the Avant Garde firm and the floating armories they maintained.<\/p>\n

The JVP Parliamentarian urged the Premier to make his stand known as the government\u2019s own law and order minister has contradicted Wickremesinghe\u2019s claims.<\/p>\n

Also Ratnayake questioned why Marapana was not taking any action against the Police after claiming that the Police had raided the floating armoury at Galle harbor after the Presidential polls, just to score points.<\/p>\n

The JVP Parliamentarian charged that some UNP MP\u2019s and those parliamentarians loyal to former President Rajapaksa have now formed a united front to defend the Avant Garde.<\/p>\n

He said that if Sirisena and Wickremesinghe fails to take action to clean up their \u201cAugean stables\u201d, the so-called yahapalana government could be a part of history before too long.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile President Sirisena has called for a special meeting of the Cabinet on Monday to discuss the Avant Garde incident, following heated arguments between ministers over the issue at the cabinet meeting held last Thursday.<\/p>\n

Marapana during a debate in parliament on Wednesday dismissed that there was anything illegal about the Avant Garde vessel carrying unauthorized weapons and the whole controversy was due to a lack of understanding and eagerness of police to “score points” with the new government.<\/p>\n

Justice Minister Wijedasa Rajapakshe also defended the private security firm and denied accusations that the Attorney Generals department had taken bribe to cover-up the scandal.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
