One year since the New Government and everyone seems to be whinging and moaning that nothing much has happened, that similar nepotism<\/span><\/a> and a larger degree of ineffectuality prevails. Has anyone stopped to think WHY? Has anyone stopped to think if the fault really lies with the useless people we seem to be voting into office\u2026or somewhere else?<\/p>\n

After all who voted these people in and WHY? We voted them based on our values and expectations and the key word here is EXPECTATIONS. Do we (and I am talking of the masses of this Country) ever acknowledge that someone can do a better job than us, or is a better person than us or do we simply vote for someone we can relate to, \u201c a man of the people\u201d ? What I see is that we go for someone like us, after all the popular ballad that has been in front of our faces for decades says \u201c Api Okkoma Rajawaru\u2026\u201d we are all kings ! We never admit that someone can do a better job and some of us who do recognize that ability in people proceed to destroy these people very early in their careers \u2018less they prosper and bring forth a challenge !<\/p>\n

Let me give examples how did Premadasa win, Rajapaksa or Sirisena win? Because they are \u201cof the people\u201d, we all saw what ensued and what is happening now. Bandaranaike showed us just how smart he was by convincing masses that he was one of them, in spite of being an elitist educated in Oxbridge and from an aristocratic family. His rhetoric and posturing was so powerful that his wife got and his progeny continue to get the popular vote. Despite the former being a blue blooded aristocrat and latter being educated in the Sorbonne.<\/p>\n

Why is Hirunika<\/span><\/a> being taken apart\u2026.surely someone sees a parallel in a girl who has had her father murdered, who is from the \u201cmasses\u201d and is able to give a good account of herself in public ? She could go all the way couldn\u2019t she? Surely she must be stopped! I sincerely hope it is not drug money that is behind this as well.<\/p>\n

Why is Ranil never able to win on his own? He is elitist, he didn\u2019t get married early like the rest of us, he doesn\u2019t have children\u2026now those are arguments that have been used by detractors haven\u2019t they? Besides he is far too intelligent and doesn\u2019t suffer fools gladly, much to the detriment of some fools who have doctorates and others who are ministers!<\/p>\n

It is only after we learn to admit to ourselves and realize that there are people more suited to certain roles than we are due to their upbringing, mannerisms and education that democracy will work in Countries such as ours. Believe it or not, coming from an elitist family, being aware of how the world works and being well versed in the art of diplomacy is an advantage in some circumstances! We should know how to use these people to our benefit and put them to work for us not condemn them for what they are and proceed to elect uneducated scum at worst or simpletons from the boondocks at best to govern our Country and then proceed to moan and groan that nothing is happening.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
