L. Peiris<\/span><\/a> over the discovery of a suicide jacket among other explosives <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/suicide-kit-found-in-chavakachcheri\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">recovered in Chavakachcheri<\/span><\/a> on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_43134\" style=\"width: 505px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/sri-lanka-sends-a-signal\/gl-peiris-colombo-telegraph-2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-43134\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-43134\" class=\"size-full wp-image-43134\" src=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/GL-Peiris-colombo-telegraph1.jpg\" alt=\"Peiris\" width=\"495\" height=\"277\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/GL-Peiris-colombo-telegraph1.jpg 495w, https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/GL-Peiris-colombo-telegraph1-300x167.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 495px) 100vw, 495px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-43134\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Peiris<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Hettiarachchi told a news conference at the government information department today that even though the discovery was \u2018routine\u2019 and based on a tip off, it appeared that the former foreign minister had more information about the explosives, and hence an investigation will be launched to obtain more details from his over his claims that the explosives were to be sent to Wellawatte.<\/p>\n<p>Addressing a news conference following the discovery of the haul of explosives which also included 12 kilos of C4 explosives and ammunition in a house, Peiris claimed that the explosives including the suicide jacket was to be sent to Wellawatte. \u201cThe people need to know the truth. The government must not hide the truth from the people,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The former Minister went on to highlight that the latest discovery was a threat to national security and therefore the government must first and foremost ensure national security is safeguarded.<\/p>\n<p>According to the police the explosives were wrapped in a Sinhalese language newspaper which was published in 2007.
