The Anti-Corruption Front<\/span><\/a> (ACF) on Monday hit out at the United National Front for Good Governance (UNFGG) government for it\u2019s failure to walk the talk, and end bribery and corruption in the country, and punish those engaged in serious financial crimes during the previous regime.<\/p>\n

In a statement, the ACF also said that even though President Maithripala Sirisena spoke highly of the steps taken to drive out corruption in the country at the International anti-corruption summit in London<\/span><\/a>, it was very apparent that these were only mere rhetoric as nothing of such was practicsed in Sri Lanka.<\/p>\n

\u201cACF has noted that in the first six months of the new government, significant progress was made regarding investigations on corruption. However that anti-corruption drive has slowed down drastically. The inefficiency of the AG’s department and the influence of several cabinet ministers, who have links to the AG’s department are the main reasons for this,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n

ACF said that they attempted to expedite the legal process by exerting significant pressure on the former AG, however that attempt ended in failure. \u201cOur next attempt was to ensure that credible and independent persons are appointed to the AG’s department, however it seems that that attempt might also fail,\u201d the organization said.<\/p>\n

In the statement, the ACF listed out a total of 38 high profile corruption and bribery cases, of which details have being handed over to the AG by the Financial Crimes Investigations Division, but the AG has being delaying the outcome of these cases.<\/p>\n
