{"id":163354,"date":"2016-06-02T22:50:16","date_gmt":"2016-06-02T17:20:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?p=163354"},"modified":"2016-06-04T02:08:34","modified_gmt":"2016-06-03T20:38:34","slug":"rajapaksas-secretary-rohan-weliwita-to-sue-singapore-government-for-deporting-him","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/rajapaksas-secretary-rohan-weliwita-to-sue-singapore-government-for-deporting-him\/","title":{"rendered":"Rajapaksa&#8217;s Secretary Rohan Weliwita To Sue Singapore Government For Deporting Him"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Joint Opposition said today that Mahinda Rajapaksa&#8217;s Media Secretary and Chairman of the Carlton Sports Network (CSN) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Rohan+Weliwita&amp;x=8&amp;y=4\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Rohan Weliwita<\/span><\/a> who is currently out on bail, is contemplating suing the Singapore government for deporting him.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_163355\" style=\"width: 147px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/rajapaksas-secretary-rohan-weliwita-to-sue-singapore-government-for-deporting-him\/rohan-weliwita-2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-163355\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-163355\" class=\"size-full wp-image-163355\" src=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Rohan-Weliwita-2.jpg\" alt=\"Rohan Weliwita\" width=\"137\" height=\"131\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-163355\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Rohan Weliwita<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Weliwita was deported back to Sri Lanka upon his arrival in Singapore this week, by the Singapore Immigration and Emigration officials, who initially interrogated him for over three hours, before deporting him. He was scheduled to participate in the Broadcast Asia Exhibition, in Singapore.<\/p>\n<p>Weliwita who is currently out on bail over alleged money laundering charges at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=CSN&amp;x=12&amp;y=5\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">CSN<\/span><\/a>, was permitted by the Court to travel overseas, the Joint Opposition said. \u201cWe believe there is more to his deportation than meets the eye, even though the Court permitted him to travel overseas, maybe there is a hidden hand behind this incident. He is contemplating legal action against the Singaporean Government for deporting him,\u201d the Joint Opposition said.<\/p>\n<p>Early this year, former President Mahinda Rajapaksa\u2019s son Yoshitha, Rohan Weliwita, Nishantha Ranatunga and two directors of the CSN TV Channel Ravinath Fernando and Kavishan Dissanayake were arrested over money laundering charges.
