{"id":163815,"date":"2016-06-13T11:07:02","date_gmt":"2016-06-13T05:37:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?p=163815"},"modified":"2016-06-13T16:59:29","modified_gmt":"2016-06-13T11:29:29","slug":"ag-orders-elephant-judge-thilina-gamages-arrest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/ag-orders-elephant-judge-thilina-gamages-arrest\/","title":{"rendered":"AG Orders Elephant Judge Thilina Gamage&#8217;s Arrest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Attorney General has filed a revised application to High Court, seeking to annul Gangodawila Magistrate&#8217;s bail order &amp; remand former Additional Magistrate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Thilina+Gamage&amp;x=13&amp;y=4\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Thilina Gamage<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_162696\" style=\"width: 160px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/colombo-additional-magistrate-thilina-gamage-suspended-for-possessing-an-elephant-without-license\/thilina-gamage\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-162696\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-162696\" class=\"size-full wp-image-162696\" src=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/thilina-gamage.jpg\" alt=\"Thilina Gamage\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/thilina-gamage.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/thilina-gamage-50x50.jpg 50w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-162696\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Thilina Gamage<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The decision comes after the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) called for an investigation into the conduct of Gangodawila Magistrate Kanishka Wijeratne, amidst allegations that he had meted out special treatment to Additional Magistrate Thilina Gamage who is currently out on bail for allegedly owning an elephant without a license.<\/p>\n<p>Gamage was granted bail on June 2, for allegedly possessing a baby elephant without a valid license.<\/p>\n<p>Gamage has also been suspended by the Judicial Service Commission due to the ongoing investigation.<\/p>\n<p>Sources said earlier, Gamage should have been remanded for his offence, but was instead granted bail by Wijeratne who was the judge in the case.<\/p>\n<p>In a similar case in March this year, Uduwe Dhammaloka was remanded for allegedly possessing a baby elephant without a license, when he was produced before court.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p> [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":22,"featured_media":163821,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[3,2186,1,2375],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-163815","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-colombotelegraph","category-featured-news","category-news","category-stories"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.3 -
