He was arrested this morning by the Police Special Investigation Unit.<\/p>\n

He was arrested over a charge where he had allegedly used his power of attorney to sell shares in an Australian company.<\/p>\n

Before, his arrest, he was ordered to appear before the police this month to give a statement on the issue.<\/p>\n

An Australian Businessman Brayan Shadik last year said that he would file action against MP Udaya Gammanpila over illegal sale of shares worth more than one million Australian dollars that the Australian businessman had invested in Sri Lanka.<\/p>\n

However convening a media briefing in Colombo last year Pivituru Hela Urumaya leader MP Udaya Gammanpila said that a false propaganda was being spread saying that he had, by preparing a false document, fraudulently misappropriated the shares that the businessman concerned had held in a commercial bank.<\/p>\n
