The Kandy Chief Magistrate today issued a restraining order against the Joint Opposition Pada Yatra<\/span><\/a> which was set to commence tomorrow from Kandy. The Magistrate issued the order against the Joint Opposition Parliamentarians ordering them not to commence the Pada Yatra from Kandy and instead they may commence it elsewhere, outside Kandy. The decision was issued after Kandy Police requested for a court order.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the Mawanella Magistrate in a court order instructed the protestors to use alternative routes during the protest, bypassing the town of Mawanella. The order was issued after Mawanella OIC went to court seeking a restraining order to suspend the Pada Yatra.<\/p>\n

The Kandy Chief Magistrate also ordered the UNP not to conduct it\u2019s recruitment drive during the morning hours and to commence it after 2.00 p.m. tomorrow.<\/p>\n

The Pada Yatra which was scheduled to commence from Kandy tomorrow, was set to reach Colombo on August 1 and was an anti-government protest march.<\/p>\n

Over the weekend, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe declared that if the Joint Opposition can bring 10,000 people on to the road against the Government, then his Government was capable to bring a larger number in support of the Yahapalanaya.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
