{"id":166123,"date":"2016-08-05T02:49:58","date_gmt":"2016-08-04T21:19:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?p=166123"},"modified":"2016-08-07T03:09:32","modified_gmt":"2016-08-06T21:39:32","slug":"jaffna-student-clash-sirisena-assures-security-and-safety-of-students","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/jaffna-student-clash-sirisena-assures-security-and-safety-of-students\/","title":{"rendered":"Jaffna Student Clash: Sirisena Assures Security And Safety Of Students"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In the wake of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/jaffna-university-science-faculty-closed-following-ethnic-clash\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">a student clash<\/span><\/a> last month, President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Maithripala+Sirisena&amp;x=7&amp;y=7\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Maithripala Sirisena<\/span><\/a> has guaranteed the \u2018security and safety\u2019 of all the students attending the Jaffna University.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/on-the-eve-the-president-closes-all-avenues-for-mrs-return\/maithripala-29\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-149065\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-149065\" src=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Maithripala2.jpg\" alt=\"Maithripala\" width=\"639\" height=\"463\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Maithripala2.jpg 639w, https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Maithripala2-300x217.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 639px) 100vw, 639px\" \/><\/a>During a meeting with the University\u2019s Vice Chancellor\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Vasanthi+Arasaratnam+&amp;x=9&amp;y=5\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Vasanthi Arasaratna<\/span><\/a>m, academic staff, and several students and their parents last night at the Presidential Secretariat, Sirisena also requested the students to engage in their studies without any fear or suspicion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe government is fully responsible for the security and safety of the students, and we assure that steps have been taken to guarantee the security and safety of the students,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Sirisena also said that the police and other relevant security units have been informed of the sensitivity of the issue, and they have been advised to act sensitively to such incidents.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the meeting, Vice Chancellor Arsaratnam also assured that steps have been taken to prevent such incidents from happening again at the university.<\/p>\n<p>During the meeting, it was also decided to appoint a committee consisting of students and staff of the university in an effort to work towards the safety of the students in the university.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p> [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":22,"featured_media":149065,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[3,2186,1,2375],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-166123","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-colombotelegraph","category-featured-news","category-news","category-stories"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.3 -
