During the meeting, the GMOA will decide on what sort of trade union action it will take in their efforts to campaign against the ETCA, which they claim is detrimental to the country and the professional community.<\/p>\n<p>The GMOA is also irked that the government has cut down on the various benefits provided to them including the vehicle permits granted to doctors, as well as preference not given to the children of doctors when granting schools.<\/p>\n<p>The government is set to sign the controversial ETCA with India before end of 2016. The GMOA has claimed that the ETCA will pave way for Indian professionals to come to Sri Lanka for jobs, which will jeopardize job opportunities for Sri Lankans.<\/p>\n<p>However, Minister of International Trade Malik Samarawickrama has said that the government will not allow any foreigners to infiltrate the local job market, unless under special cases.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p> [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":22,"featured_media":158801,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[3,1,2375],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-166510","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-colombotelegraph","category-news","category-stories"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.3 -
