{"id":166851,"date":"2016-08-26T16:00:57","date_gmt":"2016-08-26T10:30:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?p=166851"},"modified":"2016-08-26T16:04:14","modified_gmt":"2016-08-26T10:34:14","slug":"army-intelligence-officer-who-assaulted-editor-upali-tennakoon-identified","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/army-intelligence-officer-who-assaulted-editor-upali-tennakoon-identified\/","title":{"rendered":"Army Intelligence Officer Who Assaulted Editor Upali Tennakoon Identified"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Former editor of the Rivira newspaper, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Upali+Tennakoon&amp;x=9&amp;y=8\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Upali Tennakoon<\/span><\/a> has identified Army Intelligence Officer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Premananda+Udalagama&amp;x=2&amp;y=3\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Premananda Udalagama<\/span><\/a> as his attacker.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/upali-t-colombotelegarph.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-4860\" src=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/upali-t-colombotelegarph.jpg\" alt=\"Upali T colombotelegarph\" width=\"639\" height=\"957\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/upali-t-colombotelegarph.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/upali-t-colombotelegarph-200x300.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 639px) 100vw, 639px\" \/><\/a>During an identification parade at the Gampaha Magistrate Court, Tennakoon had identified Udalagama as the person who attacked him and his wife.<\/p>\n<p>Just days after the assassination of Founder Editor of Sunday Leader <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Lasantha+Wickrematunge&amp;x=12&amp;y=5\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Lasantha Wickrematunge<\/span><\/a>, Tennakoon and his wife came under attack in Gampaha in January 2009. The culprits came on motorbikes and followed a similar attack style which was carried out to attack Wickrematunge, although the attack on Tennakoon was not meant to be fatal.<\/p>\n<p>Udalagama, who is already in remand custody in connection to Wickrematunge\u2019s assassination has been ordered to be further remanded till August 29.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, Udalagama, who is a Sergeant-Major was identified by Dias, driver of Wickrematunge as the man who abducted him.
