The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery and Corruption today filed a case at the Colombo Magistrate Court against former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa<\/span><\/a> and Avante Garde Chairman Nissanka Senadhipathi<\/span><\/a> on charges of corruption under the Bribery Act.<\/p>\n

Apart from Rajapaksa and Senadhipathi, charges have also been filed against six other suspects who are part and parcel of committing an offence which resulted in the country losing Rs. 11.4 billion. The six other suspects are Sujatha Damayanti, Palitha Fernando, Karunaratne Bandara Adhikari, Somatilaka Dissanayake, Jayanath Colombage and Jayantha Perera.<\/p>\n

As per the charges by the Bribery Commission, the eight suspects have been charged with allowing Avante Garde to maintain a floating armoury, thereby resulting in them making an unlawful profit of Rs. 11. 4 billion.<\/p>\n
