The Supreme Court has fixed for support the fundamental rights petition filed by three people from Kelaniya challenging the government\u2019s decision for allowing the national anthem be sung in Tamil at the independence day celebrations this year.\"National<\/a><\/p>\n

The Supreme Court fixed the case for support on October 14, and the petition will be heard before a fuller bench or a bench comprising of three Supreme Court judges as the matter concerns the Constitution.<\/p>\n

The petition was filed by three people by the names of Don Premaratne, Pradeep Asiri Soysa and Sanjeewa Perera who cited President Maithripala Sirisena and Attorney General as the respondents. In their petition they said that the Article 12(1) and 12(2) have been violated following the government\u2019s decision to sing the national anthem in the Tamil language during the Independence Day celebrations in February this year.<\/p>\n

According to them, the national anthem should only be sung in Sinhala with Sinhala words in accordance to the Third Schedule of the constitution.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
