{"id":167847,"date":"2016-09-19T01:14:54","date_gmt":"2016-09-18T19:44:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?p=167847"},"modified":"2016-09-19T14:23:52","modified_gmt":"2016-09-19T08:53:52","slug":"maithripala-sirisena-is-not-the-worlds-best-president","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/maithripala-sirisena-is-not-the-worlds-best-president\/","title":{"rendered":"Maithripala Sirisena Is NOT The World\u2019s Best President"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Maithripala+Sirisena&amp;x=6&amp;y=9\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Maithripala Sirisena<\/span><\/a> was adjudged \u2018the World\u2019s Best President\u2019 over the weekend but here\u2019s the thing \u2013 he is NOT and the news item is bogus!<a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/Maithripala-Sirisena-fake-website-.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-167848\" src=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/Maithripala-Sirisena-fake-website-.jpg\" alt=\"maithripala-sirisena-fake-website\" width=\"639\" height=\"581\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/Maithripala-Sirisena-fake-website-.jpg 639w, https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/Maithripala-Sirisena-fake-website--300x273.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 639px) 100vw, 639px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>At first glance when you click on the website above you would think the article is published on the highly reputed Guardian newspaper website, but on closer inspection you will realize that the website is in fact Guard1an with a \u20181\u2019 and not Guardian with an \u2018i\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>The article has received at least 10,000 likes with several unsuspecting Sri Lankans also going on to congratulate and criticize Sirisena in the comment section. The story however is entirely bogus although it carries a statement supposedly given by Sirisena himself.<\/p>\n<p>The website says that Sirisena was adjudged as the world&#8217;s best president by a Technical Committee made up of experts from reputable International Civil Service Organizations and think Tanks.<\/p>\n<p>The story claimed that there has been &#8216;rapid development&#8217; since he assumed office in January 2015.<\/p>\n<p>On investigation, it was found that the website carried many similar articles like this since August. For example, apart from Sirisena, the Presidents of Cyprus, Botswana, Ethiopia, Zambia, Philippines, and Tanzania among others have been adjudged &#8216;World&#8217;s Best President.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>The Guard1an website is registered to a US address and is located in Scottsdale, Arizona.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p> [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":22,"featured_media":167848,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[3,2186,1,2375],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-167847","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-colombotelegraph","category-featured-news","category-news","category-stories"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.3 -
