{"id":167917,"date":"2016-09-20T13:24:10","date_gmt":"2016-09-20T07:54:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?p=167917"},"modified":"2016-09-20T14:25:56","modified_gmt":"2016-09-20T08:55:56","slug":"sajin-vass-granted-bail-in-mihin-lanka-case","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/sajin-vass-granted-bail-in-mihin-lanka-case\/","title":{"rendered":"Sajin Vass Granted Bail In Mihin Lanka Case"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Colombo Magistrate Court today released former Parliamentarian <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Sajin+Vass+Gunawardena&amp;x=8&amp;y=8\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Sajin Vass Gunawardena<\/span><\/a> on bail in connection to a charge that he, during his tenure as CEO of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Mihin+Lanka&amp;x=13&amp;y=5\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Mihin Lanka<\/span><\/a> had entered into an illegal contract worth Rs. 880 million with a Singaporean Company. Gunawardena had signed the contract with the foreign company to obtain equipment for the airline\u2019s ground handling related operations.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_54794\" style=\"width: 160px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Sajin-Vass-Gunewardena.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-54794\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-54794\" src=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Sajin-Vass-Gunewardena-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Vass\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Sajin-Vass-Gunewardena-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Sajin-Vass-Gunewardena-50x50.jpg 50w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-54794\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Vass<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Gunawardena was released on a cash bail of Rs. 250, 0000 and four sureties of Rs. 10 million.<\/p>\n<p>The case which will be taken up again in November was filed by the Commission to Investigation Allegations of Bribery or Corruption.<\/p>\n<p>In another case in July, Gunawardena was arrested and subsequently released on bail in relation to a complaint by a businessman, who accused Gunawardena of defrauding his company Rs. 600 million.<\/p>\n<p>In May, the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption filed a case against Gunawardena over his failure to declare his assets during several years including in 2011 and 2012, even though he told a press conference in the same month that he had submitted all his asset details to the relevant authorities.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p> [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":22,"featured_media":54794,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[3,1,2375],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-167917","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-colombotelegraph","category-news","category-stories"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.3 -
