During the court proceedings, the CID informed the Magistrate that Aluthgamage had purchased a house at Kynesy road for a sum of Rs. 27 million which he had earned illegally.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_134299\" style=\"width: 160px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Mahindananda.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-134299\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-134299\" src=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Mahindananda-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Mahindananda\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Mahindananda-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Mahindananda-50x50.jpg 50w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-134299\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mahindananda<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Aluthgamage, was the former Sports Minister during former President Mahinda Rajapaksa\u2019s term. He is currently charged under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.<\/p>\n<p>The CID also informed the court that more dealings of Aluthgamage has come to light following the recent investigation launched as to how he found the money to purchase a house at Kynsey Road.<\/p>\n<p>Aluthgamage who kicked off his career as an insurance agent with a monthly salary of just Rs. 1250 is today the owner of several plots of land in Colombo and Kandy as well as other luxury properties. He is reported to be the owner of a 20 perch land in Borella, another property in the highly residential area of Koswatta, Nawala and also owns at least two plots of land in Kandy. He also owns a luxury apartment at Trillium Residencies apart from the property at Kynsey Road, Colombo 7. Aluthgamage had initially purchased some of these lands under the names of his family members including his ex-wife.
