{"id":168630,"date":"2016-10-08T09:45:51","date_gmt":"2016-10-08T04:15:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?p=168630"},"modified":"2016-10-08T09:47:17","modified_gmt":"2016-10-08T04:17:17","slug":"basil-denies-ownership-of-malwana-villa-magistrate-to-deliver-ruling-next-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/basil-denies-ownership-of-malwana-villa-magistrate-to-deliver-ruling-next-week\/","title":{"rendered":"Basil Denies Ownership Of Malwana Villa, Magistrate To Deliver Ruling Next Week"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Pugoda Magistrate D A Ruwanpathirana yesterday announced that the future of the luxurious riverside villa built on a 16 acre land in Malwana will be decided next week.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_142087\" style=\"width: 160px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Basil.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-142087\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-142087\" src=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Basil-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Basil\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Basil-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Basil-50x50.jpg 50w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-142087\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Basil<\/p><\/div>\n<p>He made this announcement after Former Minister of Economic Development <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Basil+Rajapaksa&amp;x=6&amp;y=6\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Basil Rajapaksa<\/span><\/a> denied any ownership of the villa. Rajapaksa&#8217;s lawyer, President&#8217;s Counsel Jayantha Weerasinghe informed the Pugoda Magistrate Court today that his client had absolutely no ownership over the house. In response to the claim by Rajapaksa&#8217;s lawyer, the Magistrate said that when the case is taken up again on October 14, an announcement will be made either ordering the state to confiscate the land or to sell it.<\/p>\n<p>In September, the Colombo Telegraph reported how a very close associate of Rajapaksa betrayed him by dragging him in to yet another money laundering scandal. In a letter addressed to the Commissioner of Inland Revenue, Muditha Jayakody claimed that a large sum of money amounting to millions which was in his bank accounts was not his money and it belonged to someone else.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat money is not earned by me, nor did it belong to me or my company.
