President Maithripala Sirisena, who came to power championing the cause of good governance, has shown scant regard to the law in his desperate attempt to safeguard his son, Daham from his recent misdeeds at the Clique night club<\/span><\/a>, which left at least one security guard injured and damage to the club\u2019s property.<\/p>\n

\"cctv-daham\"<\/a>Highly placed sources told the Colombo Telegraph that Sirisena had instructed the police to show him all CCTV footage which showed the attack involving his son and members of the Presidential Security Division (PSD).<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is unlawful, even though he is the Head of State and it concerns his son, he cannot order the police to show him the CCTV footage. This is illegal because the President is not only bypassing laws, but he is also breaking laws by ordering the police to show him the video footage which is vital evidence in this case,\u201d a source said.<\/p>\n

Even though it has been a week<\/span><\/a> since the incident took place, the police have not questioned Daham Sirisena<\/span><\/a>. \u201cIf it was someone else\u2019s son, by now the police would have at least taken a statement from the culprits, but they have not even recorded a statement from a single PSD member who was part of Daham\u2019s security detail on the day of the incident,\u201d the source added.<\/p>\n

The police have given Sirisena the CCTV footage of four specific videos which were recorded on October 8, 2016, the day of the incident.<\/p>\n
