Sajin Vass Gunawardena<\/span><\/a>, former MP and one time close confidante of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, appears to be turning to the gods for salvation, with a request to the Court to lift the travel ban imposed on him as he wishes to travel to India for \u2018religious purposes\u2019.<\/p>\n

Gunawardena today requested Colombo Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya to lift the travel ban issued on him so he could travel to India from November 11 to 16, 2016. However, the Magistrate informed Gunawardena, who is currently out on bail, that he should submit his request on November 4, when the case with regard to the Mihin Lanka is taken up again.<\/p>\n

Gunawardena was released on bail in September in the Mihin Lanka case where he is alleged to have entered into an illegal contract worth Rs. 880 million with a Singaporean Company to obtain ground handling related equipment.<\/p>\n

Gunawardena is also out on bail in another case, where a businessman, has accused Gunawardena of defrauding his company Rs. 600 million.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
