{"id":169918,"date":"2016-11-03T15:03:14","date_gmt":"2016-11-03T09:33:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?p=169918"},"modified":"2016-11-06T00:13:49","modified_gmt":"2016-11-05T18:43:49","slug":"sirisena-wants-judiciary-to-decide-on-central-bank-bond-scam","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/sirisena-wants-judiciary-to-decide-on-central-bank-bond-scam\/","title":{"rendered":"Sirisena Wants Judiciary To Decide On Central Bank Bond Scam"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>President Maithripala Sirisena today declared that the Treasury <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Bond+scam&amp;x=10&amp;y=6\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Bond scam<\/span><\/a> at Central Bank must be an issue left for the judiciary to decide upon, sans interference from politicians.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at an event in Maharagama, Sirisena said that an impartial ruling without political interference will only be reached by the judiciary, hence the bond scam which cost the country Rs. 1.6 billion must be referred to the Courts.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_153804\" style=\"width: 160px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Maithripala.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-153804\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-153804\" src=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Maithripala-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Sirisena\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Maithripala-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Maithripala-50x50.jpg 50w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-153804\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sirisena<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&#8220;Politicians must not interfere in this Treasury Bond Scam anymore. It is the Court that should decide on this,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>The statement comes just days after Sirisena\u2019s very own members in the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) called for the appointment of a Presidential Commission to investigate the bond issue, in which ex-Governor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Arjuna+Mahendran&amp;x=11&amp;y=7\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Arjuna Mahendran<\/span><\/a> has been implicated by the COPE, while Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has also been accused of covering up the incident by opposition parties.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, a six member Committee has been appointed by the SLFP to study the COPE report on the bond issue and submit their report to Sirisena. The six member comprises of Ministers Dr. Sarath Amunugama, Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, W.D.J. Seneviratne, State Ministers Dilan Perera and Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena and Deputy Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the Joint Opposition has already lodged a complaint against Wickremesinghe and Mahendran, requesting the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) to investigate both, over their role in the Treasury Bond transaction.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p> [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":22,"featured_media":153804,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[3,2186,1,2375],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-169918","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-colombotelegraph","category-featured-news","category-news","category-stories"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.3 -
