{"id":172553,"date":"2017-01-10T16:15:13","date_gmt":"2017-01-10T10:45:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?p=172553"},"modified":"2017-01-11T15:00:00","modified_gmt":"2017-01-11T09:30:00","slug":"wimal-weerawansa-remanded","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/wimal-weerawansa-remanded\/","title":{"rendered":"Wimal Weerawansa Remanded"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Colombo Fort magistrate has ordered\u00a0Parliamentarian <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Wimal+Weerawansa&amp;x=7&amp;y=5\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Wimal Weerawansa<\/span><\/a> to be remanded till January 24th on charges that he misused 40 state vehicles.\u00a0Weerawansa was arrested this morning by the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID).<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to journalists outside the FCID building this morning, prior to entering the FCID, Weerawansa claimed that Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe had ordered the FCID to arrest him today.<br \/>\n\u201cBased on the information we have received, the FCID is preparing to put me behind bars today. Just before going abroad, Wickremesinghe has ordered for the arrest of me and several others,\u201d he said. Weerawansa also added that these political motivated arrests were not going to stop him or the others in their fight against this government.<\/p>\n<p>Weerawansa had allegedly misused state vehicles when he was the Minister of Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities.
