{"id":173048,"date":"2017-01-24T14:03:46","date_gmt":"2017-01-24T08:33:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?p=173048"},"modified":"2017-01-24T14:03:46","modified_gmt":"2017-01-24T08:33:46","slug":"court-of-appeal-reinstates-ravirajs-murder-trial-appeal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/court-of-appeal-reinstates-ravirajs-murder-trial-appeal\/","title":{"rendered":"Court Of Appeal Reinstates Raviraj\u2019s Murder Trial Appeal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Following submissions made by the counsel of slain TNA MP <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Nadaraja+Raviraj&amp;x=10&amp;y=7\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Nadaraja Raviraj<\/span><\/a>\u2019s family, the Court of Appeal which dismissed the appeal against the Colombo High Court judgement, today reinstated the appeal against the judgment.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_152989\" style=\"width: 160px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/raviraj.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-152989\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-152989\" src=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/raviraj-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Raviraj\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/raviraj-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/raviraj-50x50.jpg 50w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-152989\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Raviraj<\/p><\/div>\n<p>On January 20, the Court of Appeal dismissed an appeal against the verdict delivered by the Colombo High Court filed by the victim\u2019s wife Shashikala Raviraj on grounds that the plaintiffs were not present in court when the case was taken up for consideration.<\/p>\n<p>However today, when the counsel of Raviraj&#8217;s family, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=M.+A.+Sumanthiran&amp;x=8&amp;y=8\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">M. A. Sumanthiran<\/span><\/a> made submissions to the Court of Appeal, the bench after considering the submissions decided to reinstate the appeal.<\/p>\n<p>In December, the Colombo High Court acquitted all five suspects including three former intelligence officers of the Sri Lanka Navy.
