{"id":179792,"date":"2017-07-12T00:01:04","date_gmt":"2017-07-11T18:31:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?p=179792"},"modified":"2017-07-13T00:50:36","modified_gmt":"2017-07-12T19:20:36","slug":"tna-wants-to-meet-mahanayakes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/tna-wants-to-meet-mahanayakes\/","title":{"rendered":"TNA Wants To Meet Mahanayakes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Amidst a declaration by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=+Mahanayakes\">Mahanayake Theras<\/a> and the Sangha Sabha that there is no need for a new Constitution, the Tamil National Alliance (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=TNA\">TNA<\/a>) is expected to request for a meeting with the Mahanayake Theras for a discussion on matters of \u2018mutual interest\u2019, sources said.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Mahanayakes-Chief-Monks-06062017-Pic-via-Maithripala-Sirisena-Facebook.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-179660\" src=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Mahanayakes-Chief-Monks-06062017-Pic-via-Maithripala-Sirisena-Facebook.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"860\" height=\"517\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Mahanayakes-Chief-Monks-06062017-Pic-via-Maithripala-Sirisena-Facebook.jpg 582w, https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Mahanayakes-Chief-Monks-06062017-Pic-via-Maithripala-Sirisena-Facebook-300x180.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 860px) 100vw, 860px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>However, no official date has been scheduled as yet for the meeting, but the delegation will be led by TNA Leader <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=R.+Sampanthan\">R. Sampanthan<\/a> who is also the Leader of the Opposition. \u201cThe TNA delegation want to meet with the Mahanayake Theras of the Malwatte and Asgiriya chapters, where matters pertaining to a new Constitution will also be discussed,\u201d sources said.<\/p>\n<p>Another matter expected to be taken up during the meeting is the continuing issues the civilians in the North have to face due to military occupancy in civilian land. \u201cThe TNA wants to keep the Mahanayake Theras informed of the prevailing situation because not many continue to report on the military occupation on civilian owned lands in the north, even though it has been more than eight years since the war was over, but the returning of the lands to the rightful owners is happening at snail space,\u201d sources said.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, the Mahanayake Theras and the Sangha Sabha took a unanimous decision that the country did not require a new Constitution or an amendment to the existing Constitution.
