{"id":183171,"date":"2017-10-19T15:09:08","date_gmt":"2017-10-19T09:39:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?p=183171"},"modified":"2017-10-19T16:25:19","modified_gmt":"2017-10-19T10:55:19","slug":"wasim-thajudeen-ex-colombo-jmo-ananda-samarasekera-granted-bail","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/wasim-thajudeen-ex-colombo-jmo-ananda-samarasekera-granted-bail\/","title":{"rendered":"Wasim Thajudeen: Ex Colombo JMO Ananda Samarasekera Granted Bail"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Colombo Magistrate Court today released former Judicial Medical Officer (JMO) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Ananda+Samarasekera\">Ananda Samarasekera<\/a> on bail hours after he surrendered over the murder case of ruggerite <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Wasim+Thajudeen\">Wasim Thajudeen<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_162273\" style=\"width: 160px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Ananda-Samarasekera.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-162273\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-162273\" src=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Ananda-Samarasekera-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Ananda-Samarasekera-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Ananda-Samarasekera-50x50.jpg 50w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-162273\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ananda Samarasekera<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Last year, Health Ministry Secretary Anura Jayawickrema in a report submitted to the Colombo Additional Magistrate said that the ex-JMO was responsible for the missing body parts of Thajudee. Jayawickrema said that Samarasekera had acted in an irresponsible manner when conducting the first postmortem, in which Samarasekera ruled Thajudeen\u2019s death was due to an accident. The ex-JMO had claimed that he had handed over the body parts to two minor staff to store in a freezer but both staff members had denied this.<\/p>\n<p>Early this year, the Colombo High Court released Former Senior DIG Anura Senanayake and Former Narahenpita Crimes OIC Sumith Perera on bail although they were accused of concealing evidence in the murder of Thajudeen.<\/p>\n<p>Thajudeen, a Sri Lankan ruggerite and former Havelock SC captain, was killed in Colombo in May 2012 in what appeared to be an accident, but it was later ruled as a murder, with the accident staged.
