In an emotional speech at the government Parliamentary group meeting, Deputy Minister of Power and Energy Ajith P Perera<\/a> said he always held the view that Arjun Aloysius<\/a> was a “rogue” and his position hasn’t changed.<\/p>\n

The Deputy Minister explained to his Parliamentary group colleagues, on Monday, that the detailed bills, which he obtained from his mobile service providers, did not suggest any telephone conversation between him and Aloysius, the controversial businessman who is at the centre of the bond fiasco<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“He may have tried to contact me and I may have responded<\/a> to the missed call by calling back without knowing his identity. But clearly there was no conversation and the mobile service provider assured that. If the calls were connected, it would have shown on the detailed bill. I am willing to present my detailed bills to any party,” the Deputy Minister asserted.<\/p>\n

“During the COPE sessions I stated that Aloysoius was a rogue. There has to be an investigation into his conduct, There is no doubt about that. But I haven’t seen, nor have I heard the voice of this person,” he said.<\/p>\n

Ironically, when Ajith P Perera made this speech, former Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake<\/a>, a close friend of Aloysius, was seated next to him. Karunanayake seemed uncomfortable when Perera repeatedly attacked Aloysius, in his speech.<\/p>\n

The Deputy Minister also said the document present to the Presidential Commission on the bond issue was no different to a “kala paththare”. “There was no information on call durations. There was no information on phone numbers. It paints a completely different picture about the matter and tarnishes our reputation,” he added urging Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to hold an investigation into the matter.<\/p>\n

Perera reiterated that the whole issue had infringed on their rights and privileges as MPs.<\/p>\n

The Prime Minister, responding to the Deputy Minister’s remark, instructed him to make a request from the Speaker to conduct an investigation into the matter .<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
