Sri Lanka has been ranked 67th in the Good Country Index<\/a>, an improvement of 14 places from the 81st place the country had last time.<\/p>\n

The top three are the Netherlands, Switzerland and Denmark, on the index created using 35 separate indicators to rank the countries that contribute most to the greater good of humanity rather than for their own citizens.<\/p>\n

On Sri Lanka’s rank dropped slightly from 26th last time to 24th on International Peace and Security, Science and Technology (from 113th to 117th), Culture (from 131st to 141st), and Prosperity and equality (from 50th to 52nd), to 117th (from 113th), while improving on World Order (from 89th to 78th), Planet and Climate (from 91st to 72nd) and Health and Wellbeing (from 110th to 78th).<\/p>\n

Simon Anholt, the creator of the Good Country Index, said a successful country was one that \u201ccontributes to the good of humanity\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cOf course, it must serve the interests of its own people, but never at the expense of other populations or our shared resources: this is the new law of human survival, and it\u2019s a balance which is far more easily maintained than many people imagine,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
