Daham Sirisena<\/a>, son of President Maithripala Sirisena, participated in a programme organized by the Youth Front of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) held at the party’s headquarters yesterday (December 18).<\/p>\n

The younger Sirisena, who has shown a fascination for the limelight that has led to his presidential father being accused of nepotism<\/a> and promoting ‘family politics,’ has posted photographs on FB of himself on the stage at the above event.<\/p>\n

The Facebook post mentions that the event was held to ‘create awareness about the local government elections.’<\/p>\n

Daham Sirisena does not hold any position in the party or in it’s youth wing. However, as an adult, he had every right to join or support any party of his choice and to engage in politics. However, the matter of close relatives of politicians taking up politics was the subject of sharp criticism by the Sirisena camp during the run up to the January 2015 Presidential Election.<\/p>\n

It is not clear what Daham Sirisena’s credentials are.<\/p>\n
