President Maithripala Sirisena said that he would not hesitate to use the sword on friend or relations, regardless of distinctions such as political loyalty or color.<\/p>\n

He added that he would use his sword on anyone \u2018for a clean and pure political movement,\u2019 and for the betterment of the nation and the \u2018jathiya\u2019.<\/p>\n

He made this assertion at the launch of \u2018Nidahase Sammuthiya (Covenant on Freedom),\u2019 the policy statement of a coalition of 31 unnamed political parties contesting under the \u2018United People\u2019s Freedom Alliance,\u2019 at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall today (December 28).<\/p>\n

President Sirisena did not mention any names following this bold pledge to slay those who are opposed to his notions of what is good and wholesome. As Colombo Telegraph has reported, the President has been accused on numerous occasions of feeding nepotism and corruption instead of eliminating these as promised in his presidential election campaign. He took his son Daham to the United Nations as part of the Sri Lankan delegation, for example, while Minister Sujeewa Senasinghe has questioned why the President has not appointed a commission regarding his daugher\u2019s PR agency being given contracts to handle the governments PR work.<\/p>\n

According to a statement released by the Presidential Media Unit, the President had expressed the need to groom a new set of honest and straight politicians through the forthcoming local government elections who love the country and would not bow down to bribery, corruption and wastage.<\/p>\n
