A group of senior members of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) have urged President Maithripala Sirisena who is also the leader of the SLFP to sack former president and current MP, Kurunegala District, Mahinda Rajapaksa, Colombo Telegraph learns.<\/p>\n

According to sources close to the President, the call has been prompted by Rajapaksa recently calling people to vote for the ‘pohottuwa’<\/a> (i.e. the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna or SLPP).<\/p>\n

Those calling for the removal of Rajapaksa argue that the SLPP is opposed to the SLFP and that if Rajapaksa wants to support the SLPP then he cannot remain in the SLFP which is also contesting the forthcoming focal government election.\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
