{"id":189188,"date":"2018-03-28T13:43:56","date_gmt":"2018-03-28T08:13:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?p=189188"},"modified":"2018-03-28T17:48:41","modified_gmt":"2018-03-28T12:18:41","slug":"central-bank-explains-harsha-de-silvas-actions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/central-bank-explains-harsha-de-silvas-actions\/","title":{"rendered":"Central Bank  &#8220;Explains&#8221; Harsha De Silva\u2019s Actions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Central+Bank+of+Sri+Lanka\">Central Bank of Sri Lanka<\/a> (CBSL) has written to Colombo Telegraph offering a clarification on the news story published yesterday (March 27) titled \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/president-stops-gazette-on-transferring-central-bank-from-ranil-to-mangala\/\">President Stops Gazette On Transferring Central Bank From Ranil To Mangala<\/a>,&#8217; where it was mentioned that State Minister Dr. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Harsha+De+Silva\">Harsha De Silva<\/a> had summoned the Monetary Board against established procedure.<\/p>\n<p>The Director, Communications, CBSL states that De Silva had only \u2018convened a meeting of stakeholders to resolve a longstanding issue\u2019 and that two independent members of the Monetary Board had wanted to take part in the discussion. (see full text of the \u2018clarification\u2019 below).<\/p>\n<p>However a Central Bank official who wished to remain anonymous told Colombo Telegraph \u2018they have been caught with their pants down. The two independent members had no business to participate in a meeting of stakeholders of a controversial national payments platform.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018It means that those Monetary Board members have no free will when the matter comes up at the Board.
