{"id":189331,"date":"2018-03-31T15:57:09","date_gmt":"2018-03-31T10:27:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?p=189331"},"modified":"2018-04-01T00:10:26","modified_gmt":"2018-03-31T18:40:26","slug":"no-confidence-motion-jayampathys-law-point-irks-president","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/no-confidence-motion-jayampathys-law-point-irks-president\/","title":{"rendered":"No-Confidence Motion: Jayampathy&#8217;s &#8216;Law Point&#8217; Irks President"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>President Maithripala Sirisena, angered by a interpretation offered by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Jayampathy+Wickramaratne\">Jayampathy Wickramaratne<\/a> (MP) on Rupavahini has called on the Chairman of the television station Ravi Jayawardana and asked him if he was running the station on behalf of the United National Party (UNP), Colombo Telegraph reliably learns.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_149043\" style=\"width: 160px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Maithripala1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-149043\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-149043\" src=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Maithripala1-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Maithripala1-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Maithripala1-50x50.jpg 50w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-149043\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sirisena<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Wickramaratne, speaking to Rupavahini, stated that the No-Confidence motion against Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe in fact targeted the whole Government. The argument is based on the last paragraph of the motion which would, if passed, resolve that Wickremesinghe is unable to function as Prime Minister, as a minister or in the Government.&#8217; He has picked on the last, for his assertion.<\/p>\n<p>According to sources, after Sirisena called Jayawardana, the latter has considered resigning his post.<\/p>\n<p>In an earlier incident Minister Rajitha Senaratne is reported to have invited both Sirisena and Wickremesinghe to his residence and then stated that the leaders of the two main parties in the Yahapalana coalition had sorted out differences and implied therefore the no-confidence motion is as good as dead. However, the President&#8217;s Media Unit rejected Senaratne&#8217;s claim, categorically stating that there was no meeting between Sirisena and Wickremesinghe to discuss the motion on Thursday as reported.<\/p>\n<p>Political analysts told Colombo Telegraph that although Sirisena has not expressed his position on the motion, these developments as well as the decision to relieve <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/president-snubs-ranil-puts-central-bank-under-mangala\/\">Wickremesinghe of responsibilities pertaining to the Central Bank<\/a> indicates that he is either in support of the motion or is using the same to leverage Wickremesinghe&#8217;s eviction before the matter comes up for debate next Wednesday (4th) in Parliament.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p> [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":22,"featured_media":165002,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[3,2186,1,2375],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-189331","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-colombotelegraph","category-featured-news","category-news","category-stories"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.3 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/wordpress\/plugins\/seo\/ -->\n<title>No-Confidence Motion: Jayampathy&#039;s &#039;Law Point&#039;
