The Criminal Investigation Departments revelations to Mt Lavinia Courts\u00a0in connection with the assault, torture and kidnapping of Keith Noyahr<\/a>\u00a0and the murder of Sunday Leader Editor Lasantha Wickrematunge<\/a> has stirred a hornets nest\u00a0internationally. Many donor nations and others with whom Sri Lanka\u00a0has Trade agreements, Human as well as other rights are keenly\u00a0observing the outcome of the above mentioned investigations.<\/p>\n

Lasantha<\/p><\/div>\n

President Sirisena and Prime Minister Wickremesinghe have no or\u00a0little option but to let the Criminal Investigations Department continue\u00a0the investigations unfettered. Sri Lanka’s image and commitment\u00a0to respect Law and Order will be tested on the outcome of these\u00a0investigations.<\/p>\n

The inquiries conducted thus far and reported to Court show a clear\u00a0direction coupled with a definite line of command. Inquiries also reveal\u00a0clearly, the perpetrators who carried out these crimes did not know the\u00a0victims. Reports to Court reveal that the Rajapaksa regime including\u00a0Gotabaya Rajapaksa<\/a> had six years from 2008 to conclude these inquiries.\u00a0They did not for obvious reasons.<\/p>\n

The evidence before Court must necessarily end with charges being framed\u00a0against the suspects not withstanding how high up the ladder it may lead.\u00a0Sri Lanka’s commitment to Law and Order and her International image\u00a0depends on it. The killing of ACF employees did not go away and the Nation\u00a0was considered a pariah State until the Government changed in 2005.<\/p>\n
