<\/a>Explaining the UN Chief’s telephone conversation with Sirisena, the UNSG Office, this morning, said Guterres urged the Sri Lankan President to revert to Parliamentary procedures and allow the Parliament to vote on the Prime Minister’s appointment as soon as possible.<\/p>\nSecretary-General informed the President that he was following developments in Sri Lanka and offered assistance in facilitating a dialogue with all parties to resolve the current situation, the statement also added. “emphasized the government’s responsibility to ensure peace, security, and respect for the rule of law.”<\/p>\n
Painting a different picture about his telephone conversation with the UN Chief, Sirisena said he had a ‘highly successful” discussion with the UN Secretary-General, indicating Guterres was in agreement with the Sri Lankan President’s unconstitutional conduct.<\/p>\n
