The gazette notification relating to subject allocation among ministries was released this morning.<\/p>\n

Sirisena<\/p><\/div>\n

As per the Gazette, President Maithripala Sirisena<\/strong><\/a> has retained the Police Department by placing it under the Ministry of Defence. The Department of Government Printing has also been placed under the Ministry of Defence, held by President Sirisena.<\/p>\n

Sirisena has ceded control of state media institutions to UNP Minister Mangala Samaraweera. However, he has appointed his representatives to director boards of three state media institutions. Accordingly, Saranga Wijayaratne, a President’s representative, has been appointed the Director General of the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation.<\/p>\n

Rasanga Harishchandra has been appointed to ITN as the President’s representative while former Editor of the Lakbima newspaper has been appointed the Director Editorial of Lake House.<\/p>\n

However, 43 state institutions still remain under the direct purview of the three ministries held by President Sirisena.<\/p>\n

Finance and Media Minister Mangala Samaraweera has received 48 state institutions including the Treasury, the Central Bank and the Securities and Exchange Commission. All state banks have also been placed under Samaraweera.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Minister of Power and Energy and State Enterprise Development Ravi Karunanayake has not received any financial institutions, in addition to the regular functions and subjects of the Power and Energy Ministry.<\/p>\n

Interestingly, Minister of Agriculture, Rural Economy, Irrigation, Livestock Development, Fisheries and Aquatic Resources P. Harrison has received 33 state institutions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
