{"id":199268,"date":"2019-02-26T18:21:24","date_gmt":"2019-02-26T12:51:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?p=199268"},"modified":"2019-02-26T18:24:09","modified_gmt":"2019-02-26T12:54:09","slug":"sanath-jayasuriya-banned-for-two-years-cannot-take-part-in-any-cricket-related-activity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/sanath-jayasuriya-banned-for-two-years-cannot-take-part-in-any-cricket-related-activity\/","title":{"rendered":"Sanath Jayasuriya Banned For Two Years; Cannot Take Part In Any Cricket-Related Activity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Former Sri Lankan <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=cricket\">cricket<\/a> captain\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Sanath+Jayasuriya\">Sanath Jayasuriya<\/a> has been\u00a0banned\u00a0for two years by the ICC for refusing to co-operate with investigations concerning corruption.\u00a0Jayasuriya cannot take part in any cricket-related activity until 2021.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_125568\" style=\"width: 193px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Sanath_Jayasuriya_589038.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-125568\" class=\" wp-image-125568\" src=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Sanath_Jayasuriya_589038.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"183\" height=\"250\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-125568\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sanath Jayasuriya<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Last October Jayasuriya had been charged with\u00a0offences related to anti-corruption investigations.\u00a0The ICC said Jayasuriya had been charged with violating two clauses of the ICC anti-corruption code.<\/p>\n<p>The clauses Jayasuriya had allegedly violated are;<\/p>\n<p>Article 2.4.6 \u2013 Failure or refusal, without compelling justification, to cooperate with any investigation carried out by the ACU, including failure to provide accurately and completely any information and\/or documentation requested by the ACU as part of such investigation.<\/p>\n<p>2) Article 2.4.7 \u2013 Obstructing or delaying any investigation that may be carried out by the ACU, including concealing, tampering with or destroying any documentation or other information that may be relevant to that investigation and\/or that may be evidence or may lead to the discovery of evidence of corrupt conduct under the Anti-Corruption Code.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The former Sri Lankan cricketer had been given two weeks, from 15 October 2018, to respond to the charges, against him.
