{"id":199476,"date":"2019-03-05T23:30:12","date_gmt":"2019-03-05T18:00:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?p=199476"},"modified":"2019-03-06T18:01:01","modified_gmt":"2019-03-06T12:31:01","slug":"displaying-tiger-flag-two-london-tamils-arrested-by-counter-terrorism-police-at-heathrow-airport","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/displaying-tiger-flag-two-london-tamils-arrested-by-counter-terrorism-police-at-heathrow-airport\/","title":{"rendered":"Displaying &#8220;Tiger Flag&#8221;: Two London Tamils Arrested By Counter-Terrorism Police At Heathrow Airport"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two London based Tamil activists have been arrested\u00a0on suspicion of terrorism offences and\u00a0released on bail on Monday.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/ltte-flag-colombotelegraph.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-4403\" src=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/ltte-flag-colombotelegraph-300x218.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"218\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/ltte-flag-colombotelegraph-300x218.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/ltte-flag-colombotelegraph.jpg 309w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Metropolitan Police\u2019s counter-terrorism unit has arrested two Tamil activists at Heathrow airport while they were travelling to Geneva to\u00a0participate in a demonstration at the UN Human Rights Council (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=UNHRC\"><strong>UNHRC<\/strong><\/a>), calling for Sri Lanka to be referred to the International Criminal Court, <a href=\"https:\/\/morningstaronline.co.uk\/article\/b\/tamil-musician-arrested-counter-terrorism-police-heathrow\">Morning Star<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n<p>According to Morning Star, on Monday around 5pm dozens of police officers raided one suspect&#8217;s home and seized his laptop, USBs, documents and clothing.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Police were called at approximately 06:20hrs to a report that two men within terminal two departures were displaying a flag believed to be linked to a proscribed Sri Lankan group,&#8221; Metropolitan Police said in a statement.\u00a0Two men have been arrested on suspicion of terrorism offences following a call from a member of the public, police said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Officers subsequently removed two men, aged 31 and 36, from a plane due to depart for Geneva and they were initially detained under schedule 7. Following further enquiries, both men were arrested on suspicion of wearing, carrying or displaying an article as to arouse reasonable suspicion that they are a member or supporter of a proscribed organisation (contrary to section 13 of the Terrorism Act (TACT) 2000) and membership of a proscribed organisation (contrary to section 11 TACT 2000).<\/p>\n<p>They were taken to a West London police station, and have subsequently been released on police bail until a date in late March.
