In a meeting with Facebook executives to discuss restrictions to be\u00a0placed on social media sites after the bombings on April 21st Sirisena’s\u00a0officials slammed the company representatives using undiplomatic and\u00a0abusive language.<\/p>\n

Rather than focus on Mohammed Zaharan and the NTJ and their extremist\u00a0content being shared on the platform, the main grouse of the\u00a0presidential advisors and officers at the meeting was that Facebook\u00a0had not taken measures to block the accounts of Lankaenews which uses\u00a0facebook to publish articles that appear on the Lankaenews website which is\u00a0blocked on all Sri Lankan internet service providers. Most of the 2\u00a0hour discussion just one day after the atrocious bombings focused on\u00a0the slander of the President through Lankanews and Facebook’s\u00a0inability to check the account Colombo Telegraph reliably learns.<\/p>\n

The President’s Private Secretary Janaka Ranawaka, the allegedly\u00a0corrupt former Kotte Mayor spearheaded the attacks against the FB\u00a0officials sources at the talks revealed.\u00a0Ranawaka accused FB of being a “criminal organisation” and told the\u00a0officials their children and families would be cursed.<\/p>\n

Facebook officials at the meeting were reportedly shocked at the abuse\u00a0hurled at them by presidential staffers. According to sources\u00a0Presidential Advisor Shiral Lakthilaka had also shouted at the FB\u00a0officials. Also present at the meeting were President Sirisena himself\u00a0and his brother Dudley Sirisena.<\/p>\n
