BBS Gnanasara today called for patience to resolve the threat of Islamic extremism and terrorism, as he expressed sadness over the plight of ordinary Muslims due to growing anti-Muslim sentiments in the country.<\/p>\n

“It is regretful that ordinary, innocent Muslims who earns their daily wages have been heavily impacted by this issue…It has reached a point where it has become impossible for them to face life,” Gnanasara said, addressing the media today at the presser, which featured detailed security sweeps before Gnanasara came in.<\/p>\n

He said although only a certain segment of the Muslim population that follows Wahabism and the ‘even more dangerous Salafism’ that nurtures extremism and radicalization, followers of Wahabism and Salafism hide behind money and sponsorship of politicians to evade the law.<\/p>\n

“All this time we have been going after small fish – it is now time to go after the big fish,” he said.<\/p>\n

True to his claim, Gnanasara shared information with media about alleged links maintained by the owner of a local education institute, with terrorist Zaharan. The British College of Applied Studies CEO\/Chairman Abdul Rahuman was accused of having amassed wealth and assets both locally and overseas through aiding and abetting terrorism and terrorists including some of those who carried out the Easter Sunday bombings.<\/p>\n

He also asked Elections Commissioner to ban political party – National Front for Good Governance – founded by Rahuman .<\/p>\n

The controversial monk also warned religious leaders including the Cardinal, against collaborating with certain Muslim religious leaders to fight Islamic extremism, as it is the same figures who assisted terrorists such as Zaharan.<\/p>\n
