MP Sarath Fonseka<\/a><\/strong> says cries of betrayal over the \u2018Millennium City\u2019 incident is a politically motivated spin.<\/p>\n

Dropping a bombshell before testimony of ex-DIG Nalaka de Silva<\/strong><\/a> began, Fonseka said some have confused the \u2018Millennium City<\/strong><\/a>\u2019 incident just like the phrase \u2018Eyes Only\u2019 rose to controversy following the inaugural PSC session last week.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was the Northern Commander when Millenium City happened. It is true they were an intelligence unit but there was a misinformation campaign claiming they were part of a Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol Unit,\u201dhe says.<\/p>\n

Fonseka did not mince his words as he continued, \u201cThe office in charge of this unit was a Sergeant. With a waistline of about 41 inches, he could barely climb two flights of stairs\u2026Even I had doubts about what the team was doing there with a haul of weapons\u201d<\/p>\n

Millennium City incident was revived by Opposition members over the past few days including Wimal Weerawansa and Mahinda Rajapaksa to express concerns over<\/strong><\/a> the live telecast of the testimonies by intelligence officers before the PSC.<\/p>\n

Fonseka went on to state the way some groups are fussing about the phrase \u2018Eyes Only\u2019 mentioned by National Intelligence Chief Sisira Mendis<\/strong><\/a> last week, is similar to \u2018Banda going to town\u2019 noting their confusion is due to never having heard those phrase before although they are openly used in military settings.<\/p>\n
