It is now no secret that SIS Chief Nilantha Jayawardena<\/strong><\/a> is Sirisena’s favourite and that it led to sidelining of other top officials in Defense apparatus. Testimony made by ex-Defense Secretary Hemasiri Fernando<\/strong><\/a> before the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) probing Easter attacks this evening made clear why; SIS Chief Nilantha is as incompetent as his master is.<\/p>\n

Fernando says Nilantha rang him on the morning of Easter Sunday attacks<\/strong><\/a> and asked how many Methodist churches are located in Colombo city.<\/p>\n

Responding to the query, Fernando had told he is not aware as he is a Buddhist but had checked with a group of friends and reverted with the answer. Nilantha had mentioned he is looking for a list of Methodist churches as he heard the attacks were going to be on Methodist and not Catholic churches.<\/p>\n

This conversation not only makes it clear, that the SIS and the Defense Minister were fully and distinctly aware of the impending attacks and did nothing whatsoever to prevent them, but it also speaks volumes as to the resourcefulness of SIS Chief – seeking information on the number of Methodist churches from Fernando who confessed he had no clue.<\/p>\n

Fernando’s testimony also makes it evident that Sirisena was only interested in underpinning his private agendas and interests using the defense apparatus instead of focusing on national security matters.<\/p>\n

“Makandure Madush was the most discussed topic during NSC meetings. Apart from that discussions were also held on speargun fishing and the possibility of an attack using drones,” says Fernando adding the impending threat of attacks by Zaharan and his terrorist gang was never discussed.<\/p>\n

Fernando also said Sirisena is a liar as he told a blatant lie to media – that he asked Fernando to quit.<\/p>\n

“He never at any point asked me to resign.I handed in my resignation because it did not feel right to stay on in that position when the Chief of Police was sent on compulsory leave,” Fernando noted. He also said he believes he failed 50% in his job as the Defense Secretary but it was due to the fact that no support was extended by his Minister.<\/p>\n
