In effect, the CA verdict has now paved way for the D A Rajapaksa museum trial to begin tomorrow.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_195972\" style=\"width: 210px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Gotabaya-Rajapaksa-and-IGP-Pujith-.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-195972\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-195972\" src=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Gotabaya-Rajapaksa-and-IGP-Pujith--200x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Gotabaya-Rajapaksa-and-IGP-Pujith--200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Gotabaya-Rajapaksa-and-IGP-Pujith-.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-195972\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Gota<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The aspiring Presidential nominee has been accused of misappropriating state funds worth Rs. 34 million to construct the commemorative museum in Weeraketiya, Hambanthota as a tribute to his late parents. He, along with six other defendants were charged by the Attorney General under Section 5(1) of the Public Property Act and Section 388 of the Penal Code, the Prevention of Money Laundering Act and the Public Property Act.<\/p>\n<p>When the case was listed to be taken up before the Special High Court, which began its trials in July last year, Gotabaya\u2019s legal team filed writ and revision applications citing the Special High Court lacks jurisdiction to hear the case.<\/p>\n<p>The three judge bench of the Special High Court includes justices Sampath Abeykoon (President), Sampath Wijeratne and Champa Janaki Rajaratna.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p> [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":22,"featured_media":195972,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[3,1,2375],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-202759","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-colombotelegraph","category-news","category-stories"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.3 -
