Day 1 of the D A Rajapaksa museum<\/strong><\/a> trial before the Special High Court proceeded as planned today but was disappointing; main man Gotabaya Rajapaksa<\/strong><\/a> was a no-show.<\/p>\n

Representing Gota, PC Ali Sabry informed the three judge bench that his client was unable to be present before Court today as he has been mandated a six week rest period following the heart surgery he underwent in Singapore.<\/p>\n

Accordingly the Special High Court extended the period granted for Gota to travel overseas for medical reasons, until July 24.<\/p>\n

The D A Rajapaksa museum case was taken up before the Special High Court today after Gota\u2019s writ and revision applications challenging the Special Court\u2019s jurisdiction to hear the case against him, were rejected by the Court of Appeal yesterday.<\/p>\n

The Court granted permission for Gota to travel overseas for medical treatment with effect from May 24 until June 2.<\/p>\n

However, through a special motion filed by PC Sabry on June 3, the Court was informed his client was unable to return to Sri Lanka as mandated by the Court, due to having undergone heart surgery in Singapore.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
