JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva<\/span><\/strong><\/a> vowed to fight for the rights of those from the LGBTIQ+<\/span><\/strong><\/a> community, facing oppression.<\/p>\n

In one of the most progressive political speeches made in the recent past, the JVP frontliner made a public pledge to fight for the rights of all those facing oppression.<\/p>\n

Tilvin Silva<\/p><\/div>\n

\u201cWe stand for the rights of the working class\u2026The working class is being oppressed by the bourgeoisie. Within the working class are those who face further oppression due to their gender or sexual orientation etc.,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Silva told the crowd that due to various cultural and sometimes legal reasons, those from the LGBTIQ+ community face various issues. He vowed to stand with them and work against the oppression they are facing.<\/p>\n

\u201cDepriving someone of their entitled rights based on their physical appearance or their sexual orientation is not acceptable\u2026We don\u2019t agree with any type of oppression,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Silva went on to note further that the JVP does not wish to be part of a political journey that aims to only win elections while dragging the country into defeat.<\/p>\n

\u201cRacial tensions are stirred to exploit votes but that victory is short lived. People\u2019s security cannot be ensured by stirring racial tensions\u2026Weaknesses in public security can be exploited by external forces to a point that it turns into a threat to national security,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
