Dr. Shafi Shihabdeen<\/span><\/strong><\/a> – a victim of the growing Islamophobic agenda in Sri Lanka – was remanded once more until July 27 despite the CID informing Court last month there is no evidence to detain the Doctor, let alone take him into custody.<\/p>\n

Dr Shafi Siyabdeen<\/p><\/div>\n

Dr. Shafi was produced before Courts for the second time today since his arrest. He was formerly produced before Court on June 27, during which the CID informed court that the investigations into the charges levelled against him did not yield any evidence to arrest or detain him.<\/p>\n

An AFP Fact Check report last week on the Kurunegala sterilization rumours, quoted the B report produced before the Kurunegala Magistrate Court that states the CID has specifically cleared Dr. Shafi and members of his family, from the charge of earning assets via illegal or dubious means.<\/p>\n

Despite recommendations made by the CID, the Attorney General today insisted that Dr. Shafi has to be held in detention in order to facilitate further investigations into his wealth and assets.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the Magistrate today also ordered the women who levelled accusations against Dr. Shafi of having performed unconsented tubal ligations, to undergo tests long with their husbands.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
