Kandasamy has requested the students not to carry out any functions today and tomorrow (26 and 27 November) within the university premises.<\/p>\n<p>The letter issued by Professor Kandasamy dated 26 November requests the university students to assist by abiding by the said guidelines to ensure that the usual atmosphere of the university is maintained.<\/p>\n<p>Although the said communique does not specifically mention a particular kind of function or celebration, it has resulted in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Maaveerar+Naal\"><b>Maaveerar Naal<\/b><\/a>\u00a0commemorative events that were organised to take place at the university to be cancelled.<\/p>\n<p>The Maaveerar Naal or the Hero\u2019s day commemorated by Tamils in Jaffna falls on<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>27 November (Tomorrow).<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, students of Jaffna University celebrated the birthday of the LTTE leader, Veluppillai Prabhakaran in secret today.<\/p>\n<p>According to media reports the students had cut a birthday cake in secret to celebrate the birthday that falls on 26 November.<\/p>\n<p>Jaffna University students have in the past years organised and held peaceful commomorative functions relating to Maaveerar Naal without the administration interfering.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Jaffna-University-Bans-Functions-Within-Premises-Ahead-Of-Maaveerar-Naal-Heroes-Day.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-206579\" src=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Jaffna-University-Bans-Functions-Within-Premises-Ahead-Of-Maaveerar-Naal-Heroes-Day.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"967\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Jaffna-University-Bans-Functions-Within-Premises-Ahead-Of-Maaveerar-Naal-Heroes-Day.jpg 720w, https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Jaffna-University-Bans-Functions-Within-Premises-Ahead-Of-Maaveerar-Naal-Heroes-Day-223x300.jpg 223w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p> [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":22,"featured_media":206581,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[3,1,2375],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-206578","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-colombotelegraph","category-news","category-stories"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.3 -
