{"id":206727,"date":"2019-12-02T22:21:20","date_gmt":"2019-12-02T16:51:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?p=206727"},"modified":"2019-12-03T23:55:51","modified_gmt":"2019-12-03T18:25:51","slug":"parliament-prorogation-prevents-examining-bond-scam-forensic-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/parliament-prorogation-prevents-examining-bond-scam-forensic-report\/","title":{"rendered":"Parliament Prorogation Prevents Examining Bond Scam Forensic Report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Extraordinary Gazette notification proroguing the 7th parliament has been issued under the \u201ccommand\u201d of President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Gotabaya+Rajapaksa\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Gotabaya Rajapaksa<\/span><\/strong><\/a> a short while ago.<\/p>\n<p>The secretary to the President Dr. P B Jayasundera issued the gazette notification \u201cby His Excellency&#8217;s command\u201d. The proclamation by President Rajapaksa reads that Parliament will be prorogued with effect from midnight today (December 2) till January 2, 2020. Accordingly, parliament will recommence on the January 3, 2020 and next session to commence at 10 am.<\/p>\n<p>Prorogation of Parliament will render all committees being dissolved. Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) will also stand dissolved.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier in the day Chairman of the COPE, JVP MP Sunil Handunetthi called a special meeting of the COPE Committee to be held tomorrow and all its members were notified to attend the meeting. Amongst others COPE intended \u201cto discuss the prospective actions to be taken regarding the bond scam based on the final report of the forensic audit of CBSL\u201d, Sri Lanka Parliament web page read.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike the Presidential Commission on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Bond+Scam\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">the Bond Scam<\/span><\/strong><\/a> that had the mandate to look at events only the year 2015 while the forensic audit has covered the matter extensively as far back as 2007.<\/p>\n<p>Even the previous parliament COPE report on the CBSL Bond Scam could not be submitted to the 7th parliament due to the prorogation of it.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, according to some legal experts prorogation may also result in the new tax concessions not being implemented introduced by the new government as &#8220;those have to be approved by Parliament&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Gazette-notification-proroguing-the-7th-parliament-Sri-Lanka.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-206729\" src=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Gazette-notification-proroguing-the-7th-parliament-Sri-Lanka.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"632\" height=\"670\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Gazette-notification-proroguing-the-7th-parliament-Sri-Lanka.jpg 632w, https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Gazette-notification-proroguing-the-7th-parliament-Sri-Lanka-283x300.jpg 283w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 632px) 100vw, 632px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p> [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":22,"featured_media":206530,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[3,2186,1,2375],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-206727","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-colombotelegraph","category-featured-news","category-news","category-stories"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.3 -
